Homogenizing

Homogenization plays a vital role in the production of various products, including creams, ointments, sauces, flavoring emulsions, and pharmaceutical suspensions. For these applications, the ideal globule or droplet size falls within the range of 2 – 5 microns to ensure uniformity.

Silverson Homogenizer Mixers are designed to deliver outstanding results precisely within this range. Our precision‑machined Silverson workhead employs a three-stage mixing/homogenizing process to ensure excellent homogenization outcomes.

Step 1: Rapid Ingredient Intake

The high-speed rotor of the Silverson workhead efficiently draws materials into the mixing chamber, where they undergo thorough mixing.

What is Homogenization?

Step 2: Uniform Size Reduction

Centrifugal force propels the product outward into the narrow gap between the rotor blades and the inner wall of the stator, where it undergoes a precision milling action. This stage begins the breakdown of particles and droplets to a smaller, more uniform size.

Step 3: Homogeneous Result

The product then passes at high velocity through the stator’s perforations, experiencing intense mechanical and hydraulic shear forces. This continuous process expels processed mixture while simultaneously drawing fresh material into the workhead, progressively reducing particle and globule size to deliver a homogeneous and uniform blend.
